Recap: Viva La Yves
My book came out in June 2022 and I was unable to celebrate its “coming out,” until recent. I was on a solo journey to model out of state in LA and Chicago this summer. I want to model in every US state, in person. (I have knocked off 12 countries and 25 states online.) At the launch, there was a still life display, 7 interactive art displays to go with each chapter and one bonus display where guests turned an outdated plexiglass piece into something meaningful & incredible.
I have copies on hand to sell at events, or you can buy it through Archway, Barnes & Noble Amazon, Target, Walmart etc.
This was a 5-year process, where I wrote poems, showed them to close friends and then showed them to my parents. Then after finding a publisher to accept my work and take on putting my ISBN & book out in the world I then organized my poems by F-word chapters. (Faith, Family, Feeling, etc.)
I started writing as a method of survival. I rewrote one of the poems that I wrote in 4th grade and started there. Mrs. Wilson actually had my poem hanging on her wall for a couple of years from 2004-2006. She gave me a voice, that I didn’t know I had. I started my quotes section found in the back of the book. I have a yahrzeit Starry Night drawing I made in the 7th Grade from Ms. Sernik’s Judaica class featured in the book. I also wanted to recognize Mrs. Gold who encouraged us to feel warm fuzzies and smile for a camera, you can find my warm fuzzy quote in the “Food For Thought” section. There was a time when I was scared of having my photo taken. My teachers and specialists throughout the years have been one of my biggest support system, along with my family and the art community.
Thank you to those that read this, that support me and that are on this journey with me. I want to take my book around the country and talk about its contents and loving the skin you’re in.
